stock torque converter specs for 71 340 727 cuda
« on: October 21, 2015 - 10:30:56 AM »
looking for the approx. stock torque converter "stall" rpms for 1971 340/727 cuda.
I'm looking to buy one, but do not know what "stock" was.
find anything from 2,000 to 4,000 "rpm stall"
(so, I am assuming stock was under 2,000)

As usual, other people can correct me if I'm wrong, but I recall at least some of the 340s having a relatively high stock stall, like about 2400.

Saw this the other day in the 1970 Service manual and so this might be a stickey:
1970 Cuda Clone 440 4 speed - sublime green
1970 Cuda 383 4 speed - yellow - SOLD

As you can see the lower torque engines such as the 340 & 383 which have almost the same stroke are allowed to rev higher & get up omto the powerband more before load is applied to the engine . This also applies to the Hemi which needs rpm to get the air flow moving inside the massive heads
