Floor panel suppliers - who to use?
« on: May 16, 2005 - 10:37:17 AM »
I'm ready to move on to the driver's side floor replacement and started looking for suppliers.  I've looked in the ususal places, YR1, Paddock, Shermans but can't decide who to buy from.  Does anybody know if the same suppliers sell to all these?  I like the pictures on the sherman site, but theirs are higher than the other places.  Are the parts the same?  I also checked Goodmark, but they don't show any?

Thanks for the advice.

I got mine from Auto Body Specialties out of Conn. I was very happy with the price and fit. I believe that most of the pans are made by the same supplier. Plan to get the longer pans ( I think they call them 3/4 length).

I found that the dimensions given in the descriptions of each of the suppliers varies. For the front, some say 26 x 26 (Sherman & Paddock), 32 x 27(YR1), 26x25(Auto Body Specialites)

Contacted Goodmark (cause I figured that's where most of them are coming from) and they say they will have them soon but don't offer them now.

Either different suppliers are making these or somebody can't measure.  I wound up going with YR1 mainly due to the dimensions given.  I want as much metal as possible to work with.  I don't mind cutting it off if I don't need it, but it's hard to add on.  I didn't go with the full-length or 3/4 length since only the footwell needs replacing.  Underseat area is fine.

I'll let you know when I get them.

Sorry I didn't update this sooner.  The panels came in from YR1 and fit nicely.  I'm glad I got the wider panel for the front because I needed to go all the way over to the rocker panel seam.  I wound up cutting off about 3-4 inches near the front of the seat to make the seam line up with the torsion spring x-member.  The rear had to be trimmed too so the welds would line up with the factory welded seams and I had to reform the curve at the front of the rear seat area.

I'll get some pics as soon as I've finished painting the floor.

The outide still looks the same but now I have new frame rails, a new trunk pan and good solid floor.  The next step is to replace the quarters, wheel house and trunk extensions.  Maybe once the metal work is done, the progress will be more obvious.  At least I hope.

Here's an after pic of the driver's floor.  It mainly had small pinholes in it before.  I also am replacing the rear driver side.  I have more before/after if you want.  PM me.
