it's a SMALL world!!!!
« on: November 09, 2015 - 11:55:47 AM »
this is nuts.
I probably peruse more Challenger Facebook pages than I should...My Facebook feed is full of nothing but Challengers/Mopars...

So I am a part of this Facebook group: '72-'74 Cudas and Challengers
Someone posted a thread on "post a pic of your car here"
So I did.
Then I started scrolling through the posts to check out the amazing rides people have..
Then I spotted something familiar.. A '72 340 4 speed barn find car in B5 Blue out of Minnesota.
I start corresponding with the owner about a similar car I looked at a number of years ago that fit that description...
As it turns out, the car I looked at WAY back in 2006 is that very car. In talking with the owner, it turns out he bought it from someone else, and didn't have the original owners info... Of course I still had it! (I'm a packrat)
The new owner will send some pics and info for my entertainment. I know it'll probably sting a little.

Check out my post from 2006!

Well, I drove 11 hours up to Wisconsin to take a peek with cash in hand.
Honestly, it probably had the cleanest floorpans and trunk I have seen in this "price class"  The cowl wan near perfect, the duthcman was perfect, all the glass was paerfect, the parts car hood was perfect.
Now for the ugly in order of importance.
The frame was bent. It was kinked up at the cowl, and dinged just past the A arm on the frame rail. (side)
The car had tons of condensation rust, and needed new rear quarters, doors, front fenders, a new grille panel, possibly a front passenger wing, and some heavy fab work on the lower A-pillar splash-cowl intersection.
Engine was sitting for 21 years, but it matched. It needed to be torn apart to be saved.
The interior was infested with rodents, but good door panels, Center console,  front and rear and IP.
right rear wheel was locked up.
She had an offer for 5200, and I advised her to go with that offer.
Let me remind you, this was the real deal - a true 4 speed non rally 340/4 barrell car.
My search continues..
Please keep an eye out.

That is a small world. Pretty cool story. Now I have to look for the 72-74 Challenger Facebook page

You made the right call to walk away from that car in 2006.  :2thumbs:

Don't fret about the ones you miss, there are always more cars to buy the next day.

Good story,

a friend of mine and i were walking around Carlisle show one year and spotted what I remember to be a Charger I think. (its been a while) My buddy was like, hey I know that car. We go and look at it and sure enough it was formerly his uncle's car and it was for sale. He was over hearing the current owner (who he did not know) talking with the potential buyer. The buyer was asking about the fender tag and why was it missing an where was it? The current owner said, I don't have it, it wasnt with the car when i bought it and I don't know where it is. My buddy speaks up and says.

I have it

they look at him like he has three heads. he's like, no seriously , i have the fender tag for this car. And he did, It was attached to his tool box, i'd seen it plenty of times and never knew what it was for other than a car his uncle once owned. He ended up getting the guy who just bought it's info and mailed it to him.

That's a great story and a great gesture by your buddy; not to say an also great piece of serendipity for the new purchaser! Win,win, win!

Well, the Mopar world, and the E body sector in particular, is pretty small. I just did a trade with a guy in Ohio. He starts doing the scrapbook full of old cars routine and I see a car I recognize. He tells me it's his buddy's car, used to be his. Immediately, I know these are the drunks who were always across from me at Carlisle with the ratty E body ragtops.
