Has anyone added power seats gear to the standard seats??
« on: June 28, 2015 - 11:59:23 PM »
Id like to make my seats which are newly reupholstered, so Im going to keep them.  But want to add power seat functionality.   SO, has anyone experimented and found a power seat track mechanism that can easily be added to the seats?   If so from what vehicle??   Or is there an aftermarket option for the standard seats??

I'd like to take a Plush Power Bench Seat from a Caddy or New Yorker and shove it in the Challenger!

Just Kidding!

The big problem with power seats in an e-body is the height of power seat tracks.  Unless you are really short, it doesn't look promising.   :dunno:

Going to try.

I bought from ebay a Jeep 1999-2004 power seat track...   Why this one?   It was Cheap..frame was broken and I had to weld it came with the controls and it looks like its fairly "flat" top and bottom.

Not counting the mounting flanges, which I'm going to cut off and bolt flat to the floor, fully down it is only 2 1/4 inches high.    Ill let everyone know how i make out with it.

Did the Jeep setup end up working?

Not sure yet.

The power track is narrower than the manual seat tracks, so to mate to the seat had to build a bracket that drops it in and then bolts to the seat.  This allows it to "drop in" to the seat to keep the height down.   That part is done.  I did it while only cutting a very small amount on the seat frame.   This way if it doesnt wor'k I can still put the seat in with the standard manual track.

Next, Ill have to build an adapter to bolt the track to the floor bolts and cant do that right now as the car (minus seats) is at the painters.   I do believe it is going to work...  but a lot of work !!
