Pro Chargers for carb engines .... Thoughts and advice
« on: December 01, 2015 - 05:48:03 AM »
Has anyone had any experience with pro charger systems for naturally aspirated  engines? I am looking at a system for my 73 Barracuda 340 (see link for details).

Engine has mild upgrades and seems to be the exact match as per the web page. :feedback:

Cheers,

Clint

I have a friend of mine with a '69 Chevy Nova that is running a mildly built 355 ci small block. He was running 12.10 - 12.20 in the quarter mile. He put a ProCharger blow through set up on it with about 7-8 pounds of boost and now he runs 11.20's all day long. I would say that properly set up, it will really wake that 340 up.....

What kind of compression do you need to run one of these setups?

Boosted motors usually need ~8.5:1

Funny that the smog year 440's are actually good for blowers as they sported the 8.2-1 compression ratio.

There is a guy around here running a 70 dart, 500 stroker with a stage 1 pro charger. He is hitting in the high 9's, but do not remember his boost. I want to say he was only around 6-8 lbs.

Definitely check out Thesuperchargerstore. The owner is a true Mopar guy, and a really nice guy to boot.  I called with a few questions about putting one on my small block 73 Barracuda and we ended up talking for over half an hour.  Found out you have to relocate the battery to the trunk and if your Cuda has a/c you'll have to relocate the compressor with his kit's optional brackets.  I also told him I was considering swapping my 318 for a 340 and he said don't bother if I'm going to be supercharging.  And definitely let us know which way you go and how happy you are with the install and performance.
