Nice , reason I asked is I have a Tuff wheel from http://www.pgclassic.com/256-bs-c-mopar-a-b-c-e-body-leather-tuff-steering-wheel/   and I'd like it to be thicker. I had the grant version but upgraded to the leather wrapped one, and it was slightly smaller in diameter too!

You will like the wrap then. The key is to lace it up as tight as you can. Unlike those cheap ones you used to get at the parts stores, once laced up, it doesn't slide around, move, etc. It feels like it is supposed to be on there. I put one on my 98 Ram 3500 bc a dog had chewed up the wheel. I test fit the leather wrap on a Tuff Wheel and it fit, so I ordered one and installed it. I really like the fit, feel and look of it.

Yea me too. I thought about stitching some thin covers around the spokes before putting the outer cover on, but this is beginning to get too thick and complicated. I think you could make your own leather cover that does cover the spokes without a lot of hassle. The issues come in from getting the correct diameter, edges have to be folded over and sewn, then the edges punched with small holes to facilitate lacing. It would be a good "cottage industry" for someone to make. I think I paid wheel skins something like $35 for a solid black one.

Agreed, the gauges look aftermarket / custom and spendy!!

The look on the panel is not that hard.  The wood grain is just a sticker over a thin metal (aluminum?) piece that is attached to the plastic bezel.

You can strip the woodgrain sticker, prep and paint he metal piece any way you want.

I painted mine satin black and then went for a brushed look on the gauge surrounds.  I basically sanded it with a red scuff pad in a circular motion.

Here are a few pics.  The brushed finish does not show well in the pics, but you get the idea.

Thanks.  I am just not a wood grain guy!

The gauge surrounds are the parts I hit with a red scuff pad (steel wool).  They are originally painted brown, I just hit the brown parts with the scuff pad to strip all the paint.  Once the paint is off, if you carefully go in one direction (circular) you end up with a nice brushed finish.   masked then off an paint the rest of the panel.  I also did the same to the detail line around the entire panel.

I picked the technique up in an old hot rod mag.  It was an article on detailing an engine compartment by Steve Strope.

You could also polish that section to a nice shine!
