Switch SE Rear Window for Standard?
« on: December 12, 2015 - 01:05:00 AM »
Hey guys,

I don't even have my new acquisition a 1970 Challenger SE yet, although thinking one of the first changes I want to make if possible will be to remove the SE Rear Window and install a Standard Window.  Is this pretty much straight block over tackle or will there be a challenge doing so?

Thanks

ps: go Seahawks!

Remove the fiberglass plug, add trim clips & glue in the standard glass...   If your still using the fiberboard headliner you'll need to find a way to support the back edge....

Drive the car much & you'll get tired of trying to see out the back...

If you do that I'm interested in buying the rear glass moldings.                         :rebel:

Won't be a challenge, if you like the standard back glass, it's worth the extra job and money. Mine was already stripped when i bought it, i only have now the fiberglass plug with the stainless moldings... I believe it's more beautiful that way...

I think it's a great idea. I would have done it if my car wasn't a U-code. You will need easy to find normal back window and moldings as well as "normal" headliner bows and inside rear window moldings. All the stuff is easy to procure and much easier to deal with than the PITA SE stuff. Oh and then you don't have to deal with the wiring, relays and lights for the overhead console either.

It's on my list of things to change, small back window sux.
Only Mopar could add a crummy small window that you can't see out of, and charge more and call it "special".

I would be interested in the moldings.      I have a nice set of big glass moldings to trade.     I even have an extra big glass .                           :rebel:

This just might work for us both Mark.  Give me a chance to get the car and we can set it up.

Glad I am not the only one considering this.  Mine will be on the lines of a "Pro Touring" car, so originality is not a concern for me.

I'd like to work something out, need to figure out how to get the SE out and replace without having to completely redo the top

Cut the top a few inches inside the large window seam, roll the flap back & remove the screws holding the plug.... Lift the plug out as an assembly... Typically there is some fabric filler between the plug & the vinyl top so it should separate from the plug pretty easily...
