'71 Barracuda Tail Panel Trim
« on: December 10, 2015 - 08:01:10 AM »
Looking for some help.  I am getting ready to add the chrome tail panel trim to my car which did not have it originally.

Does anyone have any pictures of how the trim attaches to the clips as well as how the clips attach to the body?

Also interested in measurements / pictures of the placement of the clips to the body.

A friend of mine just had this done....
The clips were so tight, the trim got slightly dented....
..and who wants holes in their car anyways ?

I for one will use elastic glue type Tec7 when time comes !

Don't have measurements but found a picture that can give you the idea.  The holes are 3/16" if I recall and are drilled right down the center of the 1" wide ridge.  The two curved end pieces have their own six (3 each) clips.  You can barely see the three holes for the curved end piece, and you can see how the top and bottom strips have six clips each.  The  two straight pieces are put on with the white clips.  The clips have a little peg that is pushed in which spreads the little tangs on the clip to secure it in the hole. As Johannes mentioned, it can be stressful putting the chrome strip onto the clips.  I'd recommend putting maybe a 3" long block of wood (with  a rag over it) flat on the molding strip and giving the block of wood a sharp rap to pop the molding strip onto the clip. They ARE tight.   BTW, you can see that the tail panel was masked off down the middle of that ridge, painted organisol black, and then the clips were put on.

Thank you all for the great information!  I have ordered new trim as well as the hardware to complete the installation.  I do have another question though: Do the plastic and metal clips have a specific place or measurement where they are placed on the trim or are they just evenly spaced out?

The six metal clips are used on the "C" corner pieces only.
