Just my opinion, but Cuda's get a lot more looks and attention than a Mach1 Mustang.

Do what your gut tells you.  If you are completely in love with the Mach1, then keep it.  But I guess if you were, you wouldn't be asking.

Forget the Mach1 (shaver) and join the dark side!  :grinyes: :D
A 70 440 'Cuda will hold it's value for resale 100 times better than the Ford.

Definitely sounds like a good deal. Any photos? Let us know how you get on, I'd trade my Ford in for a deal like that ANYDAY!  :D 8)

Welcome to cc.com longfellow.  I like all muscle cars but prefer cuda's and challengers.  I think the ford has a great history but they made a bazillion of them.  The e-body holds a great piece of history in the muscle car world and just makes anyone who drives one . . . A CLASS ACT

After driving that small block Ford, the 440 Cuda will blow your mind away.  It will be much more powerful, attract more looks, and, hold its value much better.  The downside will be the price of insurance, and the price of parts.

Ghost, he didn't say it was a small block.  I might be a 351C (big block).  They were very powerful and respected back in the day.  But there's no subsitute for cubic inches.   :grinyes:   That's something that was available in Mopar's to the extreme!

I agree the Cuda will get more looks like I said above since they are more rare and desireable.  One thing about the Mach1 is the rear visibility is poor and the belt line is so high I feel like I'm in a coffin.

Speaking of high beltlines, the Cuda/Challenger definitely fall into that category!  Even at 6'2", the door is a little high to hang elbow...  But that reminds me of the first time I saw a Cuda convertible, and why I instantly resolved to own one someday...

17 years old, (a long time ago now!), and I pulled up to a stoplight right behind a '70 Cuda ragtop, black over hemi orange, and I remember the coolest thing about it WAS that aspect of it, that only the very top of the driver's head was visible from behind, because of the massive hips and ass on that thing!  It was clearly bigger, wider, meaner, more laid back, just all around CRAZIER than anything I had seen before.  Right then, I knew it was gonna be Mopar or no car!

I confess to liking the styling of various fastback Mustangs, but I gotta agree that they are less rare than big honkin' Cudas... Although it must be nice to be able to get so many repro parts that are hard to find for Cudas.....  (trim and such).

Welcome to the board Longfellow!  I think you would definately be trading up! Now don't get me wrong, I like to look at old mustangs and I'm not trying to speak negatively about your current car.  The Cuda is definately more rare than the mustang and 15K for a 70 440 cuda is a great price and will only rise.  This opportunity will probably only knock once...I'd answer it.

Well, I'm not a Ford engine expert, and, I thought that 351 sounded a little small to be a big block, so...

I'm not a ford expert either. Just a piece of trivia from the past.  I remember 351W (small block), 351C (big block) and 351M (modified?).  I guess cubic inches has nothing to do with an engine being a big or small block.  For example why can a 400 chevy be a small block, but a 366 is a big block?? Just one of those things, I guess.

I agree that if I had to choose between a Mach1 and a Cuda, and assuming they were both in good condition and could afford either, I would pick the Cuda everytime.   :grinyes:

Ooops, I guess I read that wrong!  It should be in very good shape for that much money then.

Is your Mach 1 in similar shape? I'm not up on their values when equipped with the 351. Not as much as a 'Q' or 'R' code i imagine. Hope i got that right as i don't speak Ford very well ::)  If the Mach 1 still retains it's original drivetrain, you'd be trading for a 'cuda that does not as they didn't come with a 440 in 1974. That's where their respective values come in to play. On the plus side parts are a bit easier (and slightly cheaper) to come by for 72-74s as opposed to 70-71s. Have you driven the 'cuda yet? Is it streetable? Weigh all the factors and keep us posted

Looks like a decent car.  Needs a rear valance and a nice set of tips.  I would have to get rid of those chebbie lookin' stripes too JMO!!  If it's a solid car, I don't think 15,000 is too bad.  As for 8000 for the ford. . . . I have no idea??  Sorry.  Good luck with the deal and keep us informed!!   :grinyes:  :grinno:  ;D  :grinno:  :grinyes:
