Hey guys..everything is good to go with CHP, CA DMV and insurance..I'm legal!  I've got about a million things to do..but I think the first hurdle to jump is an issue Ive had with the car not wanting to start again after running.  I can go out, crank it now, drive it around for about 15 minutes, come back and crank/crank/crank til the battery or starter dies.  It seems to be relative to temperature (just a guess) because it's only if the car has run for a good while.  If I start it and run it (not drive it) for 5 minutes or so..it'll crank back up.  My Dad was thinking timing..and we both had compression thoughts.  Any ideas?

sounds like ignition to me! I have seen anything from an ignition coil, pick up coil, module, do that. how good are you wiring?

Glad you got the paperwork taken care of.... For your next issue I agree it sounds ignition related but could be fuel....   Try pulling the coil wire out of the distributor cap, lay it so the end is maybe 1/4" from something steel like the intake or valve cover & watch for spark while you have someone else crank the engine.....

Pick up coil can shut down with heat , check the gap too

Thanks for the ideas guys.  Been sorta busy traveling over the Christmas/New Year holiday.  I'll look into those ideas in the coming weeks once the Southern California rains die down!

Sounds like heat soak on the coil, I have had the same issue in the past. Throw a new coil into it (get a cheap one from a parts store if you don't have one laying around) and try it out. If it works, you can deal with that later if you are going to do some performance upgrades.

If this doesn't work, look at the ECU on the firewall (big square box, probably black with a round or kind of triangular plug with a single Philips head screw in the center); I have had them act like this as well.
