Primer color for K5, dark burnt orange poly.
« on: December 15, 2015 - 12:01:49 AM »
What color primer should I use to bring out the true color of K5 ? I will be using PPG base coat, solvent based if I can get it. Any opinions ?

I would go with red! they have spray out card's. to light A color and you risk A build up of base, dark color's can fool you if not being careful of light and dark spots. three coats of base is about what I like to use. but then again I use axalta (formerly) Dupont, and use's there value shade system of sealers. :2cents:

js29no thanks, I was thinking red also but maybe a lighter shade, I think I can get a rose color primer which would let me see the base I am laying down. Axalta I'll have to look at that.

other option is to use the grey primer but tint it with your base coat. reduces highs and lows when doing base coat.

I have done some thing like that before, you can use tint from A paint mixing system in primer. no balancer or binder wasted that way,not to mention pearl and flake. I like to seal over the surfacer primer! and I stay away from cheaper base coat. if your doing A budget paint job then tinting your surface/filler primer will be A good option that you can use.
