Screw broke off in tail light assembly!
« on: December 22, 2015 - 08:23:03 AM »
My husband and I received several parts with the '71 Barracuda that we are currently restoring. Two of the parts that came with the car were the tail light assemblies. However the left rear assembly came with a screw broken off in it. We have desperately tried getting it out to no avail. We have tried vise-grips, WD-40, drilling the screw (drill bit keeps sliding off), heating it up, etc! Any thoughts or tricks? Or if we need to get a new one, where can we find them? Here are some pics! Please help!

It looks like that housing is some kind of a metal alloy. Is that correct? Set a nut on top of the screw and very carefully weld it. This will heat the screw and loosen it plus you will be able to put a wrench on it. You will have to be very careful of the heat created when welding. I'm not sure how much heat the alloy will take.

:wavingflag: Or you can take a die grinder or dremel tool cut it off flush, use a center punch to get a guide mark and then drill it out :2cents:
:wavingflag:  Quit being offended by everything, I am sure you are doing something that upsets me, but I am not complaining about you!!! It is a free county get over yourself!

I would try a wirecutter, pretty small, so it's able to get a grip and turn, and not too sharp, so it won't cut it off so easy. It will either loose up or break.
