Federal PS leak
« on: January 03, 2016 - 02:38:20 PM »
Found the leak in the Federal PS reservoir.
Looks to be at the area where the red line is in the picture , between pump and reservoir at the front bottom.
Would soldering do the best repair? ?

Might just need a rebuild and your seals have hardened.

Only one way to find out...

Well, I want to have the gear box sent to FF and could use the room then to pull headers to replace starter, as having starter trouble, sounds like good as time as any to do that rebuild also.
Thank you.

Is it meant to leak from there like the water pump will do when need worked on or replaced?

The seal goes around in the inside of the front of the case, so yes it will leak from there when you seals go.

I just had mine redone and no more leaks and yes mine leaked from the same place.

Thank you everyone for the info.

Will get the seals -o ring.
I need to align the pump and belt anyhow, looks like bent bracket.

That is an easy fix , there are a couple of fittings to undo on the rear of the pump & the reservoir can will slide / pry carefully off  2 -3 o rings to replace & put it back together

Thank you, I probably spent more in PS fluid leakage than the repair will be.

When I bought my Federal pump, it definitely wasn't brand new.
The case had dents. Obviously it was a re build.

Make sure to inspect the case that it's in good condition.
I smeared that gooey brown tar gasket sealer into the edges. So far no leaks.
