Are yokes interchangeable between cases? (489 to 742 for example)

Looking at getting a new posi 3rd member and just want to know how these things work...

I know there are two different yokes. Large and small.

Our cars use the large, yes?

I'm looking at a small yoke 742 and wondered if the large yoke I currently have on my one-legger 489 would swap in...?

I don't know if you can interchange the yokes, you will have to check if the spline count matches.  There's coarse (10) spline and then there's fine spline (I forget the number but it's 20 something).  But I think the fine spline only came on the 489 center section.  I just swapped yokes on one of mine so it's still kinda fresh on my mind.  Except I swapped a 741 yoke for a 742.

Just make sure you match it to your driveshaft too.  There's two u-joints sizes like you mentioned 7260 and 7290 dodge joint sizes.

Well done... The fine spline is 29....

the nut size is different between the 2 splines so before you undo it if the nut takes a different socket it is a different spline
