Welcome, RooK!!!

A 72-74, running and driving, in decent shape will set you back between 7,500 and 15,000.

 You are looking at this logically, at least I'll say that ! As far as e-bodies go the most reasonable you can hope for are the 72-74 Challengers. Cudas are more popular but more money, Either 70 or 71 model years are almost costing money just to look, lol. Too bad a-bodies don't do anything for you, they are the most reasonable Mopar going right now (of course I'm talking 1974 and older), as far as b-bodies go MEK hit it head on, the 71- 74 are more readily available and still aren't "second mortage" vechicles. BUT.........honestly, if you stumble across the right person/place at the right time you may buy even the most sought after Moaprs for a steal, it still happens, that is if people who quote purchase prices are being honest. But don't give up, the commets you've read here are accurate and I don't think are meant to scare you off, only to infom and prepare you for the reality of this hobby today. And honestly I personally wouldn't even encourage you or anyone to buy if you don't plan on keeping the car, the only resale big bucks are the mega$$$$$$$ cars so it seems. Be patient, keep saving and looking, and as has been accurately said, buy the best shape car you can upfront, it's the "cheaper" route to a restored classic Mopar. GOOD LUCK and welcome to our electronic home, c-c.c

1973challenger360, reply sent.

whitesatinmopar, I guess my disdain for the a-bodies is almost like stabbing myself while wanting to own a piece of Mopar history, eh? :)  What's the going rates on them anyway?  You may convince me yet with some persuasive pictures.  All the comments on prices of parts and inability to get your money out of them once restored has done nothing but made me more determined.  I'd be looking at the same prices for parts on my Prix and even more for things like hoods ($700) and engine mods since it's a niche market, but it's no big deal spread out over time and the Mopar is worth it to me.

Mortgage?  What's that?  Ah, the luxuries of youth.  ;)  I'll keep my eyes out for some '70s Road Runners and Chargers as well.  I don't expect to start looking until next spring anyway, that gives me plenty of time to save up and a whole spring/summer to work on the car.

This may not be a good example but as much as posssible if you'd find an A, B, and E body equiped bassically the same say with a 340 block and we'll use a 71 as our model year, the a-bod would average around $7K, the b-bod around $10K and the e-bod would probably be close to $18K. Now I'm not talking ultra rare models or rust free cars, just good solid drivers that you would not be embarrased to take to the local cruise in. Come on you other guys, is this too far of base?, there are so many varriables of options you could consider but I'm thinking of an average equiped ride here. And beleive me the a-bods are fine cars to build, I'd love to have a Demon or Duster, especially a 71 !

:iagree:   I am with WSM and I agree about the 70-71 Duster or Demon, currently have eyes peeled for a good deal now.   They are almost as sweet as the E bodies!!   Be patient what you are looking for will jump out at you and you will know it when it hits you.  If you get impatient you will get stuck witha basketcase and it might ruin your love of r the old beauties!  Happy hunting!

I may wind up with a b-body then when it comes time to lay down the money.  Even looking on ebay, the $5k~ price range ones looking like running cars, unlike the e-bods that appear to have been drug out of a junk yard and put up for sale.

In the mean time, could you guys give me some links where I could learn about Es and Bs bumper to bumper: drivetrains, restoration, things to look for when shopping for one, etc.?  I'll admit I'm not the most knowledgable about Mopars, so some help there would be appreciated.  :)
