Here is my fender tag.

Based on the Scheduled Production Date shown it's a new one to me.

As it should, but it is interesting (at least to me) that your tag doesn't have J54 on it and JS's tag does. Just another one of those production line inconsistencies that Ma Mopar was famous for.

The R/T Performance Hood was standard with the A66 package. Sometimes standard items were not coded on fender tags. The J54 shows up on the other example tag in this thread - but it is from a different Assembly Plant - Hamtramck. Nubs32's car is from the LA Plant. I wonder if the LA plant decided not to put J54 on the tag since it was a standard item in the A66 Package? I have a few A66 cars in my data base at home - I will check this when I get off of work - unless someone beats me to it.

Looks like I only have one other LA built A66 car in my database - and it does show J54 on the tag. There goes my LA plant theory - so the mystery remains.

kissalien - can you check your LA cars and see if all or some of them might be missing the J54 code?

As for a decode - I don't see that anyone has done that yet - so here it goes:

000 - Inside Upper Door color - no extra color applied (full door panels)
C04 - Scheduled production date - December 4th, 1969.

A66 - Challenger 340 Performance package
          - 340 engine, 11" HD Drums, Sport Hood, Rallye Suspension, Transverse Paint Stripe, 26" Radiator.

Looking through all of the Hamtramck cars in my database, the first car the J54 code shows up on the tags is January 14th, 1970. The R/T prior to that built on December 7th, 1969 did not have it coded, So, sometime in mid December to mid January - they started to put J54 on the tags at the Hamtramck Assembly plant. Something similar probably happened at the Los Angeles Plant.

Agreed that J54 was a change to their tag coding procedures during the model year.

Hope you guys can make this out. This is my October, A66, Hammtramck Challenger. This is the repro tag but I have the original tag as well and had this one made identical to it. We believe it came from the factory with a flat hood. It had an orange, flat hood on it when the previous owner bought it before restoration and it looked to be original.

That makes sense to me since my car was a late build date. Galen told me it was the last 340 car built in his records. Anybody have a later built A66 --7/08/70 in there data base ??

Here is a shot of it finished--of course I changed the color from FC7 with a white gut to EV2 and a black gut. My buddy had  TA in that color combo and I love it so since my original motor was gone I built it my way.

Just thought I'd explain the situation with my car so it makes a little more sense. A friend of a friend had acquired the 70 challenger a couple years ago, I went up with them to check it out (it's about 100 miles away). I took a couple quick pics. With my crappy phone and one of the fender tag. And because he isn't really even a car guy , I told him I would bee interested if he wanted to sell it. I kept asking about it from time to time and a few weeks ago he called and we made deal.  Just waiting for weather and a day off to go get her!!!  I have been wearing out my little phone pics studying them.   Haha

Hopefully you will get it soon. I waited 5 years for my R/T Convert. before the guy finally figured he wasn't going to restore it and called me.
