As long as it's a clutch style, not a cone style... Cone style was junk when new & most are plain worn out....

I have the 489 case untouched until now. Didn't have a problem for two years but I would be less concerned if I had the clutch style one...

Hmmmm. I'm thinking I should rebuild the 489's I have myself. Any good places online or books to read to learn how to do it?

Not keen on spending 1400 bucks on hit or miss.

They are easy to do, just need a good torque wrench, the factory manual has the info you need, I'm sure if you don't have one someone can copy those pages for you, also get the crush sleeve elimination kit from Cass along with a rebuild kit and your gtg.
