Hood Hinges
« on: January 20, 2016 - 10:11:37 PM »
After getting everything stripped down for paint I went to put the new hood on and make sure everything fits.

The hood fits PERFECT but every time you close it you have to push down on the back of the hood to get it down where it belongs.  should I just leave it and push down on the rear? not a big deal as long as it doesn't work it's way up going down the road.  or are my hinges worn out and should I do something about them?   I don't have anymore travel to get it any lower.

Its only going to get worse. You have to paint the hinges anyway so I'd get them repaired now. I just had my hinges rebuilt at SMS Restoration. Very quick turnaround.

I had the same problem. What I did was loosen the the 2 back bolts, (the silver ones in the photo) and pulled the back of the hinge down which cocked the hinge at a bit of an angle which in turn pulled the back of the hood down. Did this about 4 months ago and it is still perfect. Just for your information, the hood will work its way back up as you drive if you just push it down. Good luck!

Go to the resto rick website.  He covers the correct way to fix the problem.  If I recall, you have to loosen the bolts that are toward the front that are attached to the hood itself and lift up on the front of the hood.  Then tighten.  It does work.  I did it on mine.

Thanks for sharing the link.   I know I'll need the info when I put my hood back on.
