OK,

    My Heater control cable is really cranky!!!  :gripe: I have had the switch panel out of my 72 chally and attempted to work it by hand.  Its really stiff!  :dontknow: Almost impossible to push in or feed back through, and have to use pliers to pull it back out.  :banghead:   Is there any way to free this up a bit where I can reinstall my controls and it will work properly??   Now if I try to use my lever control, it just bends the wire before it enters the sheath of the cable??  :stomp:  Oh well just thought I'd see if anyone has had similar troubles??

I have not walked in your shoes, so I don't know your frustration. I just had some issues with a manual choke my old carb. had. Really, I think any trouble they give you is just a lack of lubrication, or a bend in the line somewhere. I know this doesn't help much, but in my case it was a bend issue. Good luck, maybe someone else has better advice.

I have had this trouble !


I thought I was all smart tightening the screw down snugly at the control valve end, in the engine bay.

Then I tried to move the lever on the dash...  hmmm firm.  Must need more force.   SNAP !  Broke the loop off the cable at the lever control,  just recently re-rigged it

Anyway morale of the story:    if its screwed too tight at the cotrol valve your cable will be tight.

Maybe if you pull the cable & soak it in WD40 or something similar she might free up, dumb question but did you check the valve or flap it's trying to move, that might be whats frozen???  All that pops into the ole noggin at the moment! Rich.

 Its controling the heater vlave.  It is brand new.  Gonna try to soak it????  We'll see how it goes

completely detach it fromt he heater valve, and see if it will move inside the case.

You shouldnt have to soak it in WD or anythign else.   By design it should be "self lubed" because of the low friction of the casing.

Mine didn't work either. When I took the car apart, that stupid cable snakes around so much, it's suprising the thing worked at all (even brand new). I think it actually dosen't work on most cars. Most people probably dont even check to see if that valve turns when someone moves the lever on the dash.

according to all indicators, yes that is the factory location, I have no reason to believe otherwise.   Unrestored car, Fender tagged for A/C, etc etc

Do note, that the original valve was a didifferent style all together, made of plastic I believe, quit making them a long time ago.    Can be found on eBay occasionally.   Big $ and prone to failure.

Same "concept" as a bicycle brake or gearshift cable.   

Adjusting mine so that the HOT was all the way off (IE valve closed) took a few runs to get optimized to the dash lever position.   A/C doesnt work so good when the heater is on too  :)    Now the hot is all the way off.

just a simple plastic tube with a solid metal wire in the middle.     Theres more range in the valve movement than there is in the dahs lever movement.    IE unequal distances.    At least on the replacement valves.

Most likely the spiral casing and the inner core are rusted/corroded from non-use.  Pull the cable and use penetating oil on it to free it up.
