Power Antenna
« on: February 24, 2016 - 07:32:06 PM »
My power antenna suddenly stopped working.  It is mounted on the front passenger side with no way to get to it without taking the fender or door off.  There are 4 wires coming through a hole in the inner fender and then through the kick panel.  The black is ground and is attached to a bolt, the thick black wire attached to the antenna outlet on my after market radio, a blue wire attached to the radio and a red power wire that runs to the fuse box.  Normally as soon as the radio powers on the power antenna motor runs the antenna up, and we the radio is powered off or the key is turned to the lock position the motor runs the antenna down.  Right now the antenna is stuck in the up position and the antenna motor does not run at all.  Anyone have any experience with these?

Is there an inline fuse on the red wire that you maybe didn't see?  I'm pretty sure you can get to the antenna if you take the tire and the splash guard off.  Many of the after-market antennas  have bullet connectors right at the unit that you can undo, and then you can take it out to check/replace.

:iagree: about the fuse. Also, I agree about removing the inner splash shield. Jack the car up, remove the wheel and look in there, there is a plastic shield that comes out and you will get access (not a lot, but enough). I have used automatic antennas a number of times, generally if it isn't the fuse, it probably just crapped out (not uncommon especially if you drive it in the rain or wash it a lot; water gets into it and it dies).

I like semi auto power antennas; they require a toggle switch which allows you raise or lower the antenna to your liking. I find the automatic antennas are too high/long.

Thanks guys.  I will look again for the fuse and if I can get access to it from the splash shield.
