  • There really is a Challenger in the backround
I am in the process  of installing the back part of my challenger's convertible top. The factory manual is not too clear on the process.  It looks that there should be spacers under the bolts? From the pictures in the manual they look to be 3/4 inch squares.  These I do not have.  I do have the 6 bolts with the rectangular washers that go on the left and right sides and 10 of the 13 bolts with round washers for the rear.  Is there a place I can get just a few replacements? Also in what order is the top and inner trunk liner and tack strip installed. Is there a place to get good  instructions or illustrations?

Well liner goes in last, you could substitute fender washers for the rectangular blocks...  Let me dig around, I've saved a pretty good article about installing tops..

Unfortunately I saved a link not the actual article & the link is dead....  The first thing you need to set is the rear bow, it's a fixed measurement from the bow to the stainless trim... that sets the rear window height & it's the starting point for the whole install....   Chalk reference lines on the black fabric inside the top are helpful, centerline and a series of lines to help get the window straight...

Oh, then there are the pads & cables, they need to be installed pretty early too....  I've read about it cause eventually I'll probably do my Coronet.. My Challenger I did a trade with a guy who'd done probably a dozen E bodies...

The top was removed in one piece and reinstalled by me so that part is done. The only problem is that it is a little to the right of the pins. Almost have that sorted out. I just have to figure out the rear window and the rest of the convertible top installation sequence  that is mounted in the trunk.

When you reinstalled the top did you use a couple 1/2" rods through the alignment holes in the top frame and the body?

I center the mounting brackets with the locating holes and adjusted the links and the angle(throw) as the manual stated.  The roof was too far forward and of to the right of the pin sockets. The only to compensate for the forwardness was to adjust the mounting brackets up and rearward.
