Hey Mitch, I have the 4l60E behind my big block. I love it. The install was straight forward. Hammer the pinch welds at 10 and 2. If I have to do it again, I would have the whole thing wired up on the trans, and then feed it backward through the firewall to the computer. I did not have to grind the tabs that Brad had to. Getting the throttle position sensor mounted took a little bit of planning and execution. I put mine on the frame rail where the battery is supposed to live in the engine compartment. Rebuilding the shifter is OK, even though it is not entirely clear about how the detents work. Adjusting the cable was easy. I had to make a heat shield for the exhaust to protect the speedo cable where it connects to the trans. Driveshaft measurement was easy. You will have to measure the driveline angles and adjust the rear diff accordingly. My speedo gear was the wrong size, making for a super way off speedo readout. I changed that from a ford dealer. Hopefully yours will be closer than mine was. Easy to change anyway. Im not a great computer guy, but was able to load a program on a laptop, get the computers to connect, and set up a basic parameter. Once the TPS is zeroed, you can drive. I like my shift points. Its smooth and quiet. It hits hard when you want it to. You can always manual shift the stick too. I am running 3:23 gears with 25in tires, and it cruises along on the highway easily at 70mph at 2400 rpm. I actually thought it would turn a lower rpm, but its not. I can't see running a short gear if you are doing road racing. You know your tire diameters and rear gears well enough to decide what kind of speeds you will be running. Choose a converter to match your rev range. There used to be a paddle shifter for the steering wheel option. Sounds cool, but I didn't really hear that it worked all that well. I haven't heard anything bad about SST. It has to be WAY BETTER than Keisler's BS that I had to put up with. Good luck. Im not too far away from you if you ever want to come and take a look.
