A couple T/A progress pics and a couple of questions
« on: March 26, 2016 - 02:22:11 PM »
OK, so the project has been going pretty well thanks in part to a lot of information I have gathered from our web site. I must have a whole scrapbook on door and side glass installation and I am still dreading it. But not there yet.  I am in the process of installing the steering column and can't find the roll pin. Does anyone out there know the size I need for the coupler at the bottom of the shaft. I think they are all the same but it is manual steering if that makes a difference. I also forgot about the plug end I needed for the column wiring. It is the one with the big red wire in it. Mine has been cut and bypassed the connector due to burnout. It is the first picture below. I have been looking at all my mopar sources and have come up empty. Are these connectors and pins reproduced. My connector is real bad I don't think I can save it. The last item is the exhaust. I am having a problem installing the T/A exhaust. Is there a sequence to install it to make it easier? Thanks in advance. Enjoy the rest of the pictures.

Mike

I am not sure if the turn signal switch plug is available but they do reproduce the switches which are direct plug and play.  If you need the switch with new plug its part # TW7 Standard if it helps.

Best of luck with the build.  FM3 is gonna look great once you are done  :2thumbs:

*** edit *** I might have an extra switch that I can cut the plug off of if you can't find it.  I'll have to double check to be sure.  LMK

The connector with the big red wire is the ignition switch not the turn signal switch...

Correct  1Wild R/T. I should have been more descriptive. It is the ignition plug not the turn signal plug.

I see you have the full wrap around fender cover.  :2thumbs:   We got one at Carlisle last year, really like it.   :rebel:

I don't have an answer to your question, I had the restoration shop put my steering column together. But in my puttering around reassembling some things on my T/A project today, I was online searching for a reference and I happened upon this old thread I'd seen in the past that has a lot of good info in it. Troy's T/A was one of the better OEM restorations of a T/A or AAR done.

The roll pin mics out at .300. is it split, so I would imagine the hole is a little smaller.

I happen to have both power and manual and they are the same.

Hope that helps.

The progress looks great. :2thumbs:  You have the wrong rear shock mounting plates on the car :2cents: Of course you might know this which is possibly why the shocks aren't installed yet :dunno:

Thanks Cuda JAS.  I will start micing out roll pins.

Alan thanks for the good words. The shock plates are the ones I took of the car and as I stated in an earlier post I got this car in '79 and it did not look like the rear end had been messed with. Don't know about the first few years of it's life though. I read somewhere the T/A's used b body shock mounting plates. Can you shed any light on this and what plates do you think these come off of.

The ones in your picture are correct 1970 E Body plates. However AAR's and T/A's used a B Body plate because of the higher arched spring.

Thank you Alan. You are a wealth of knowledge. I knew about the b body thing and you let me know the why of the high arch spring. I also thought the rear end had not been touched but....So I should be able to just get a pr. of 70(?) b- body plates and I will  be good. I have always said I am not building an o.e. car but a nice resto. and this is one of the in your face things I will have to change.

70 B Body or any 1971-74 E Body are the same, actually pretty common and easier to find then the ones you have. :2cents:
