Body colored grills.
« on: March 26, 2016 - 11:22:46 AM »
I am going to paint my grill body color later this spring, to give the car a different look. This got me to wondering if it might of came that way originally.  When I striped it down for paint--I found that it had been hit hard in the right front end.  The fender had been replaced, had a blue door on it, and the corner and middle of the cowl were wrinkled. When I bought the car the plastic valance insert was gone.  It was wrecked pre 1977 so there were cars still available to get parts from. So what gave the cars the body colored grill. Did they have to be specially ordered that way or was there an option code that included a colored grill. I have the build sheet---but don't see it there. Original or not I like that look---and it will give the car a whole new style/attitude.        8)

ALL "BS" Cuda's in certain colours automatically came with a colour keyed grill. FC7 was one of the colours.

All BS?  What colors got the key colored grill "automatically" ?

I can't remember all of them off hand....But if you ordered a 1971 "BS" Cuda in the following colours you automatically got a colour keyed grill.
GB5
FJ6
GY3
GK6
EV2
FE5
FC7
GW3
FY1

There may be others I've forgot :clueless:

ok. So not the deal on 70's right?

Is there a hamtrack historical document that has the full list of colors?

Hey BPR, take a read thru this thread in which Ragtop posted some pretty definitive information on the color keyed grilles right out of the Service Manual.

That is some great info.  I was thinking my car came with a colored keyed grill.  Will be going back to purple soon.  Thanks everyone.

Not a lot of information about 72 models. Is was supposed to carry over from 71, but it was cancelled altogether very early on in production. I'd be surprised if it was available for GF7, but like I said...72 is anybody's guess.
