how does the 3 inch spring relocation kit work?
« on: June 15, 2005 - 12:35:41 PM »
I see a kit everywhere to move the rear springs on an ebody in 3 inches per side.

moving them 3 inches puts them about 1/2 way into the frame rail.

has anyone installed this weld in kit? how does it work? where do the rear shackles attach? does the front of the spring now hand under the frame rail? which would raise the car.
from the pics of the pieces in the kit, i dont get it.

actually the ones I have seen go just inside the frame rail (stock is outside - relocated is inside)  and you weld the box (relocation kit ) at that point and hang front of spring likre normal...same on the rear ..plus move spring perches too

the front mount notches into the frame rail & doesn`t raise the car at all , the rear needs to be fabricated or use offset shackles & have the springs angle

If the box is frenched into the rail how do you put the nut on the bolt?
Is the nut welded to the box first?
Seems like angled springs would bind up and not flex very smootly since they want to move a direction not aligned with the pivot of the shackles. Must put a lot of stress on the shackles sideways.

no the mount is notched into the frame rail so the front bolt goes right through the frame
the springs are angled from the factory so no big deal
