Seat belt cushion beam switch

I switched out my stock seats for some high bolstered seats a few years back.
When I stripped out the old seat, I saved this thing that was attached to the bottom of the seat frame.
What does it do?
Do I need it?

Pics not showing.... What are you trying to accomplish?   on a '73 if everything is connected & working a buzzer & light on the right of the instrument panel  lets you know the seat belts are not pulled out enough to be connected. This runs through a pressure switch in the seat so it knows if someone is in the seat. .
