Is this big block timing chain 1 bolt or 3?
« on: May 22, 2016 - 08:02:10 PM »
Getting ready to assemble the wife's 440 engine and I am sorting through some parts I bought many years ago.

This timing chain is from Summit Racing but I don't think they sell it anymore.

My engine builder said I need a 1 bolt timing chain.

Would this be a 1 bolt, 3 bolt or both?

Thanks.

That's what I thought but JP Performance's website shows a similar 1 bolt chain.

I would say three bolt right away too, but now I'm wondering why it could be used with a one bolt set up if it sits on a dowel  ? :clueless:

The part number looks like a Cloyes Street Billet 3 bolt, they have a slightly different number in the catalog, but you said this was bought a while ago.

The cam sprocket needs to match the cam. 1 bolt (stock style B-RB)  will be bored and keyed, 3 bolt will have a pin and bolt up to a flat machined surface. The 3 bolt (Hemi) style is  much more durable IMO.

They may incorrectly show the same picture for both 1 & 3 bolt chains but you an clearly se the holes for the 3 bolts + the hole for the alignment / degreeing dowel

Thanks for the reply guys.

I already had the timing chain and was on the fence about what cam to go with, either the XE268H or Lunati 60302

I picked the Lunati as it has the 3 bolt timing chain setup.
