new to the forum and first question re Grille!
« on: March 10, 2016 - 05:26:16 AM »
Hi everyone! My first post.
I'm from Australia and am the proud owner of a 73 Cuda. It's a resto project and is currently stripped to a shell. Long road ahead.I'm glad I found such a great resource in this site and great reference information.

Asking for a bit of advice. I was missing a front grille and to even find one down here is extremely hard and generally the only option is to spend a fortune to get one shipped here. So to my surprise I found one here that is supposed to be an original that was repaired  (repainted the wrong shades) and reinforced so knowing to even get a reproduction one here would be expensive I purchased it for 1k Aud.
Only the next day I realized the vents that run along the top rim of the grille are not there and most likely were bogged up and filled to aid in an easier repair effort.

The first photo is a picture of what the vents I'm talking about are and the second is my grille but upside down. You can see the vents missing but holes drilled in to allow the fasteners to be used.

The grill needs to be repainted and some small repairs done also but in your opinions is this a big matter? Should I try modifying the grill to include these vents again? Or should I just get a better grille down the track.

Thanks for the help and advice! :aussie:

 Hi and welcome,

that grill doesn't look too bad, they are spendy for sure, even the repop ones are. Ive just had a look at some of the front on photo's people have taken of my car and you just dont notice all the holes up under there so I wouldnt be worried about it to be honest, there is plenty of opening to get air to the radiator, maybe for now if you really wanted to, take a hole saw, say 50mm and just drill out at the location the square holes would be bay be. shoot me a pm with your email if you like and I'll email some pics so you see what I mean

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm just not sure if the holes are there for aesthetics or purpose in cooling.

I'm afraid I may damage the grille worse off by trying to replace the vents, its just I wasn't sure if someone else saw the grille it would stick out like the proverbial and not look authentic especially because I'm restoring it.

Welcome!  As everyone else has said I think the grill looks pretty good and would imagine the holes are not easy to see.
