A-Body LCA Swap???
« on: November 05, 2016 - 08:49:50 PM »
I am(was) in the process of replacing the LCA bushings on my 71 Scamp when I hit a snag, and I believe the LCA's have been swapped out due to the bushing fitment issues Ive encountered.
I ordered a-body bushings, disassembled the left front, and had the new bushings pressed in the LCA. The problem is is that I wasnt paying attention to the bushing when I removed it; it didnt contain an inner metal sleeve but the Moog K791 replacement does and the LCA pivot is the same diameter as the inner metal sleeve.
I have since discovered that LCA's from other body styles didnt use a two sleeve bushing but only had an outer sleeve and a rubber bushing.

Ive included some pictures showing that the identical diamaters of the pivot shaft and the supposed proper replacement bushing from Moog. The shaft, even if pressed, will not fit into the inner metal sleeve but would if the bushing didnt have the metal sleeve.
Which bushing do I use? Its obviously not an a-body bushing.

I hope this makes sense and thank you for any help.

Easy to resize on a PC
Just open windows Paint
Top left hand "file" , then desktop and then open the file the pics are located
When the picture opens hit resize tab also in the top left
In the first number box erase the "100" and change the number to "20". The other number box will change also
Back to "file" and then to "save as"
Call the new file whatever you want like "001" for example and hit save at the bottom

Now your file will be small enough to post.

That's because your pivot shaft still has the inner sleeve on it....You need to slice it with a cut-off wheel and knock it off.
I've taught you everything you know.....but I haven't taught you everything I know !

:iagree: take a close look at the shaft. The sleeve is still probably attached.
