Antenna mounting question

I want to repace the antenna mounting hardware. What is the best tool to use to remove the top "nut" and tighten the new one?

 It's a spanner type wrench .     You can also grind a cheap Chinese socket  to have  cleats to grab it .

I took a piece of pipe conduit, put it in a mill and machined a tool. A hole drilled through the side so you can insert a screw driver, gives you something to loosen/tighten the nut. Cost...free.

Couple slivers of soft wood and channel locks.

Some big asss Vice Grips....Just clamp-on tight and twist her on! You might destroy the bezel....but it's all good !

Needle nose pliers. Hold them so that the points are pointing straight down.

As you can tell, I'm not one to buy specialty tools.

To ad another option since some went there. You could always slice it out of the fender. That way there is no risk of damaging it at all if it is too tight... my2c

My 68 Dart uses those special nuts on the dash as well.  I basically did the same thing with those except instead of a piece of conduit, I used cheap old sockets.  My father-in-law has a mill so they were very easy to make.


As far as the bezel is concerned, I bought a reproduction and it didn't fit the contour of the fender.  Since the fenders were Goodmarks, my first thought was that it was a fender issue.  However, I tried my original bezel and it fit perfectly.  I ended up having my original bezel rechromed but used the reproduction nut.
