    Chrome Torsion Bars??

    Hi Guys, these are off my 70 Challenger resto.

    Question: Would these have been purchased already chromed or plated by previous owner?

    Because they are pitted and peeling I was thinking of stripping them and painting Black to re use them.
    They are stamped 778/9 so maybe too soft anyway...
    The diff has a chrome cover also so I'm guessing it was a 70's thing to do.

    the factory never chromed them Because the chrome will crack & peel with the flexing of the steel below as yours are doing .
      upgrade to a larger bar

    Do yourself a favor, toss them & buy new ones... Or at least another set that haven't been chromed....  Might do some reading about hydrogen embrittlement..

    Thx guys, interesting read 1 Wild R/T will def get new bigger ones now.
    So the chrome was just a cosmetic look then.

    Go 1.10" or bigger as e-body were vastly under sprung.  You will not regret it!

    Wow it has been like 25 years since I heard a discussion on chroming the bars. Yes way back then it was noted not to do because chrome will not stand up to the flexing.
    Yes I am sure it was just for cosmetics. Ya have to remember that when this type of suspension was pUT on these cars back then it was unique and "special". So you make it shiny for everyone to see.

    Will 2-k epoxy paint work well with the flexing? I'm thinking of both T-bars and leaf springs.

    I guess it would depend on the paint hardness , if it is very brittle it will rack  more rubber like & it should be fine , epoxy will hold on well if the surfae is clean
