NADA price guide oddity - 1970 Challenger Vert
« on: June 13, 2016 - 11:36:54 AM »
I was trying to value a car that I have purchased and using the the NADA guide, I came upon a weird result.  It seems that when you value a '70 340 Challenger Convertible with A/C,  it gives you a value of $47,565.  If I click on the option menu using a 318 CiD, the value jumps to $52,095.  Any thoughts?

It is only a guide and not a very accurate one. I have found all kinds of problems with these things when you start splitting hairs considering options. NADA obviously felt a need to increase pricing for the 318 engine over a slant six, they forgot to build in an over ride once you had told them to price a 340 based car. That should have prevented your ability to select an engine option for your 340 equipped base and the addition of their assigned percentage for a 318 optional engine.
You should write them and they will get right on that fix. It really would not be hard. It is tough to include all things into software when you are writing it. There will always be things missed, left out or simply do not work.

I understand that the numbers are somewhat based on the current market.  I was wondering which of the two numbers the 340 car was closer to.

The tough thing about a 70 or 71 340 Challenger convertible is the fact it isn't an RT.
I personally would, and have valued a 340 Challenger ragtop above a 383 Challenger RT ragtop. But, that is my personal opinion I know others disagree.

:iagree: Nope...I agree...the 340 was an optional engine....in my opinion any optional engine always trumps the standard engine, in this case a "big block" 383....

I'm my opinion a 70-71 340Cuda will always be worth more, and be more sought after then the base 383Cuda. :2cents:
