73 Challenger project
« on: June 26, 2016 - 10:21:23 AM »
Hi Team I'm new and bought a 73 Challenger last year after 20 years of regret for selling a 70 440 Challenger. I'm in Perth Australia and just can't find anyone able to collaborate with in getting my mildly worked 360 with a 727 replaced with either a hardcore 440 or (my real dream) a 426 Hemi with a six pack. Doesn't everyone lol.
My collaborators need not be in Australia as it is a long term project.
On my list of 'to do's'
-find and rebuild (or acquire) a 426 Hemi.
-replace my standard diff and axles (to widen tires)
-the right advice to beef up my entire car.
Long term money is not an issue but I would not be able to consider a crate motor at this time.
Just the usual questions with a 73. Which motors bolt straight in or require little modification? Where to get performance parts? How wide a tires can I put on with modifications?
Any advice would be awesome

Welcome to the site and good luck with your project.
As for the questions, I don't know if you could piece a 426 together and have it work/last; for a whole lot less than the crate engines, unless you luckily stumble of something. 6 pack intakes for hemis' would likely be made out of unobtanium. Most all 426s' run 2-4bbls. A Dana diff narrowed appropriately would compliment the build and it's axles will take pretty much anything a street motor could throw at them. The US Cartool subframe connectors and torque box kit is, in my opinion, the best way to stiffen them up. I believe any engine Mopar made, can be put into the engine compartment with the right mounts. There's many here way more knowledgeable, so see what they say.
