71 cuda, front pass fender antenna mounting, which direction should the main body be mounted. I would think since its a 90 degree body, setup should be pointed towards the back?

Point the coax towards the back or the opening that leads to the radio.

got it,
2nd question, with the antenna extended it looks ridiculously long...
does not even clear my over head garage door, do most remove the mast
or leave it collapsed most/all of the time.

I think there is an optimum length for FM radio waves. Maybe 31" ? I forget. Any longer doesn't help with signal clarity. Hope this helps.
