Fresh air vent and heater control cable routing
« on: June 18, 2016 - 11:52:09 AM »
I did a search here and on Google and couldn't find anything. I have an old picture but it doesn't show the detail I need.  My son and I are going to reinstall the dash into my 70 Cuda today.  It's a non A/C car.  From the picture I have the fresh air vent cable that goes to the drivers side and the heater control cables are routing over the top of the bracket that holds the steering column.  However, the space is very limited and puts the fresh air vent cable at an very awkward angle and rubs on the large clutch return spring. Does anybody have a close up picture of exactly how these cables are routing over/through this bracket?  It's been several years since I took it apart and my memory isn't what it used to be.   :clueless: It would greatly appreciated.

"usraptr" = United States raptor - bird of prey = United States Bald Eagle.  FYI, somebody else thought of it first so I had to drop the "O" in raptor.

Okay, I think I have this figured out, maybe.  Can somebody please look at the attached pictures and tell me if this is correct?  Also, re the two heater control cables, are they routed the same or do they go through this gap/hole (third pictures) towards the front of the bracket or maybe those horizontal slots?

Need  :feedback:.  Got the dash installed and boy it sure looks good.  Pictures to follow tomorrow.  Got the Fresh Air Vent and Shaker Carb Air cables run with no problems along with the Temp adjustment cable.  However, I'm having problems with the Off/Heat/and Defrost cable.  The Temp cable works fine but the Off/Heat/Defrost cable only moves a little past the Heat setting in the middle.  It's nowhere near the far right Defrost setting.  So I'm wondering if I have the cable routed correctly??  :dunno: :clueless:  Is it supposed to be routed the same as the Temp adjustment cable or differently since it is shorter and goes to the top/rear of the heater box instead of the front like the Temp cable?   Again, I've tried finding pics showing how the cables are run and haven't been able to find any.  I closely examined the service manual but the diagram it shows is not very detailed and doesn't show how the cables are routed around/through the steering column or upper steering column bracket.  Any help, pictures or otherwise, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Burdar! :ylsuper:  That's how I have them run.  I guess I just need to keep fiddling with the adjustment.  :dunno:

Did you confirm they  both move to the  full extended ( control and box side)  when. Disconnected.   My buddy just had an issue with one of the flappers inside the box binding on the linkage  .. Just a thought  ......

Ends up the previous owner broke the cable and re-bent the loop at the end. It was 1.5 inches too short.  Bought and installed a new cable, and all is well now.  I have full range of movement from Off to Defrost.  Thanks everybody for the feedback.
