PRW rocker arm adjustment - Question for Chryco
« on: July 09, 2016 - 08:36:50 PM »
Received my PRW Steel roller tip rockers for my 440.  So far very impressed with the fit and finish.  I was mocking them up on my Pro-Maxx heads (used Felpro gasket, heads and rocker shafts torqued down) and came up with a couple of questions.  I'd appreciate it if Chryco would chime in as he seems to be the expert on these PRW lifters.

First question, on the push rod side of the rocker, how far down do you turn the adjuster screw below the lower surface of the rocker arm before locking it down and setting up the adjustable push rod?  Seems like I read in the past that you want two threads showing below the rocker, but naturally now I can't find that reference and I'm not sure if it pertains to PRW rockers anyway.  (Their instructions are very lacking in this regard)

Secondly, after doing a search on PRW rockers, I was reading an old post where, if I read it correctly, CP said that to adjust the pre-load on the lifter after establishing zero lash with new correct length push rods, you turn the adjuster screw down "two" full turns before locking down.  Is that correct or did I misunderstand?  My mechanic said he just turns the adjuster screw down 1/2 turn more after zero lash as do several you tube videos on setting pre-load.  I read another couple of posts where people apparently broke off the end of the adjuster screws on their PRW rockers and I naturally don't want to duplicate that so I want to get this correct to start with.

Thanks in advance CP and anybody else who chimes in.

I would down 2 full threads with the adjuster as high as possible not nessisarily showing below the rocker before measuring pushrod length .
Preload is .050 from zero typically so just add .050 to the pushrod length .
I am sure there are 100 other people here to help you out but thanks !

Thanks Chryco.  On push rod length, I'm running a Lunati 704 hydraulic cam.  Do I still need to add .050 to the zero lash length or adjust pre-load by turning down the adjusting screw 1/2 turn?
