OD switch mounting locations
« on: September 06, 2016 - 11:10:07 AM »
I'm finishing up my prep work for installing an A-518 in my 73 Cuda, but I still haven't decided where I'm going to mount my OD switch. I read through the A-518 sticky and saw where 360Fish mounted his OD switch. That gives me one option, but I'd like to hear more from the members that have done this swap.
Ideally, I'd like to mount the switch somewhere that I can easily activate it without having to take my eyes off the road for very long, which means that somewhere around the shifter or the steering column would be best. But my mind is open and I'd like to hear where other people have mounted their switches.
Thanks!

you could mount a micro switch on the shifter shaft similar to a line lock switch

Agree, a little more expensive, but the best option. My write up is in the thread.

I have mine in the center dash above the console, works well there and is not an eye sore.

That's a good idea, or add the defrost switch if your didn't have it.

Thanks for all of the replies.

Chryco: do you happen to have a link or a part number for the micro switch you mentioned? Think it would mount to a Slapstick shifter?

Matt70: do you have a pic that you can post?

Katfish, WildR/T: my A-518 will use pressure sensors and relays to automatically shift into OD. But I want to have a master switch that I can throw to enable/disable the OD. My reason being that around town, I'll turn the OD off but before I get on the hwy, I'll turn it on.

djw383, burdar: not a bad idea, kind of like what gear vendors does. I'll definitely keep it in mind.

brads70: I actually thought about that a few days ago. I even looked at on old switch panel that I have. I'd either have to get a panel with openings for 4 switches or make another opening in my switch panel.

I added a defroster switch in mine for fog lights to act as daytime running lights . I just had to drill out the hole in the 3 switch panel to make it a 4 switch panel. I think yours would be the same?  :dunno:

Correct, Brad. I would need to drill out the hole in the 3 switch panel. Let me do some searching and see how hard it is to find a defrost switch. Hope they don't cost an arm and a leg. Thanks for the idea!

this would mount on a 70 round shaft , or a smaller switch could be mounted to the plastic 71-74 type
