'72 340 with A/C question
« on: July 26, 2016 - 08:12:04 PM »
I'm looking for the thermoquad Carburetor Solenoid Wiring Harness for a '72 Challenger with a 340 and A/C. whenever i run the A/C the idle drops almost to the point of stalling. I have the Solenoid and it does work. I just don't have the wiring harness to connect it to the A/C circuit. I can't even seem to find the wiring diagram for this either. looked in my '72 shop manual, looked in a '72 parts catalog, can't seem to find anything about it.

Not an A/C car but on my '73 the idle solenoid was hard wired to the solenoid & plugged in between the alternator's blue wire.
Activation was based on power going to the alternator..

thanks, but that's doesn't help me because i need the activation when the A/C is turned on and not when the car is running.

Chrysler didn't use the idle solenoid for A/C, they hooked it to the field wire on the alternator, but it would be easy to retask it by Teeing into the A/C clutch signal.. But realize the solenoid won't be strong enough to open the throttle.. It will hold the throttle open once it's been opened & closes to the point where the idle screw contacts the solenoid plunger but till you blip the throttle it will still remain at the base idle....

thanks, i do realize that you have to hit the throttle to get the solenoid to stay out. read that in the shop manual. i guess i'm making a harness but i need to find the factory connectors.

Might contact Jim Slott, (JS Restorations) he could build you a harness easily that very few would suspect wasn't OE..
