You need to find the 1971 Options and Accessories report for Challengers.

That is the only information that Chrysler kept on these vehicles. That report gives you only a percentage figure out of all 71 Challengers made that had each particular option. You can't cross reference two options, it didn't worth that way.

Galen Govier most likely has the most extensive registry of all different years and models of Mopars. He's able to use these reports to give you a rough breakdown. Where people sometimes gets confused is he would also give breakdowns based on known examples in his registry....for example he could tell your buddy his car is the only 318 car with the wide chrome option....but what he really means is that it's the only one in his registry.

I don't think Galen is in the business of decoding Mopars anymore for the general public...just too many inquiries

There are a number of people in the hobby who have the ability to research the car, but whether or not they will "decode" it or not remains to be seen. You can with some diligent investigation figure it out yourself (as much as possible).

Is there anyone else out there that can confirm numbers like GG?  Have a buddy with a 318 '71 Challenger survivor with the wide molding around the front end.  Probably pretty rare option, but how rare?  Factory A/C car with other unique options.  Buddy has contacted GG with no response since February this year.

Though I have never dealt with him personally, Dave Wise over at MMC Detroit seems to have a very good reputation for doing the same kind of work as GG and then some ...

Agree, a lot of people can help you out decoding and with published production figures....The only thing Galen had on the other guys was his massive registry which allowed him to quote how many cars like yours are know to exist.

I just got done reading all 9 pages of this post. I do not know what happened over the years as it has been quite a while since I talked to him. He was very very helpful when I bought my 67 GTX back in 92. I called him several times with questions and he never charged me a dime. He actually decoded my fender tag and made me a repro window sticker. He ended up being one of the judges on my car at the first Carlisle CSO judging in 1994 and was very nice. Then he decoded my Challenger fender tag and broadcast sheet around 1998 and he sent me a list of all the options for the Challenger and the codes and production break downs for FREE. It was less than a month wait on both occasions and was very reasonable price. He told me he was writing a book on Superbirds so I knew of a couple in my area and went out and copied the VIN numbers for him and  called him with the info. He knew of one but the 2 others he was not aware of.  I heard when his wife died from cancer he kind of lost it for awhile which is understandable. I am sorry to hear of all the troubles many members had with him. I have nothing bad to say from my experience.
