Axle shaft speedy sleeve
« on: September 06, 2016 - 01:22:32 PM »
Anyone ever used a speedy sleeve on a worn sealing surface on a 8 3/4 axle shaft?  Mine is grooved enough that it catches easy on my fingernail.  It's leaked for a long time even after several seal changes and even doubling up on seals.  It's gotten to the point where my bearing has washed out and my brake shoes have been coated twice.

I've used a sleeve on a harmonic balancer where the seal wore a groove into the snout.  It worked fine.

How about doubling up on oil seals? Can I drive one in to the stop and a second in against the first seal to create two sealing surfaces? I know that sounds crazy but I'm looking at cheap alternatives to buying a new axle

Second seal would interfere with the bearing retainer, Speedi-sleeve is a good repair..
