Original Chrysler alternator bearings
« on: September 04, 2016 - 05:33:44 AM »
Hello guys, i do have what appear to be an original Chrysler alternator in my 71 Challenger (mounted on my 67 383 motor), the bearings into it need replacement as they became a bit noisey recently.
Do you know where i can find new bearings ? Or a complete rebuild kit ?
How do you tell when this alternator came out new from the factory?

Here are some pics.
Thanks for helping !

That ones been apart a time or two..... First glaring change is the gold pulley, the original would have been black & stamped steel not machined steel....

It is also a heart shaped back which I thought ended in 70 but may have carried over into 71
I have not found a kit yet but a rebuilder should have them or just buy a rebuilt alt compete
Rock Auto lists the brgs , National 203FF for $5.50 each
 Also the brushes for $5

Square back started in 72... The 203 is the front bearing, you need a puller to remove the pulley & a press to reinstall..... Probably easiest to just get an exchange alternator... If this were a date coded numbers deal I'd suggest a different route but hardly worth the cost in this case...  :2cents:
