how to remove gear indicator from an original column shift?
« on: September 02, 2016 - 06:49:07 PM »
Hi!

I plan to install a floor mounted shifter & console in my Cuda.

The actual column that I got w/ my car is a column shifted column, and I am hoping you guys can tell me what parts I need to do the conversion to get rid of that section w/ the indicator, as this will be a real obviously 'off' looking feature on my interior if i leave it.

Any pictures would also be helpful if you have done this on your car as well.

Thank you!

F

Last year I converted my steering column from column shift to floor shift for 4 speed conversion. IIRC Essentially you need to swap the cast aluminum housing that has the gear indicator and shift lever (two pieces) with those from a floor shift car (three pieces, auto or manual). All other components from the column shift steering column are used.

The part that mentions pulling the key cylinder out:
Put the key in and push the pin in the hole.

Also be very aware how the spring is on the column that's for the lever lock out.
I didn't pay attention when I took it off and it took me hours to find where it connects back.
