ignition help
« on: September 16, 2016 - 09:48:53 PM »
Here is where I'm at .70 440 Challenger making around 430 horse . Been playing a little and now I want a high rev limiter . The stock Dodge electronic ignition seems to work fine now .Could I hook up a rev limiter to whats there now or do I have to change everything . Would there be much of a horse power gain with a performance ignition over stock ? Not looking to spend too much . Any good kits for sale with everything . Also keep in mind I'm a back yard guy so nothing too complicated please . As always Thanks in advance and look forward to some thoughts .  :2thumbs:

What ignition box are you running now?  I think the orange box is only good to maybe 5000rpm.   I have no experience with it but there is a bolt-on ignition box that has a built-in regulator feature.  Look for posts talking about the Rev-N-Nator.

Just looking at the Rev n nator my question, if any how would horse power be affected compared to say a msd set up .  I'm thinking horse powercompared to cost hope to do this only once parts cost a lot .

In other words If it's worth the gain I'd rather put the $400.00 towards the better set up . Up to a limit .

you wont gain any hp over using any multi spark box . you gain a little with any of these boxes and they clean up the idle a little on engines with big cams . if you want a noticeable increase in power you need to change something big.

I have to say, with the Rev n Nator + Firecore distributor, my car runs much better compared to the MP performance Electronic ignition conversion kit.  Its on a 440-6.  I did happen to get their coil too.  I purchased the distributor separately.  At the time, they did not offer the pkg with distributor.  I just got the coil and ECU.
The Rev unit is basically for those who wishes to have the stock look.  If that is not your desire, then by all means, get the full MSD or other system.

I have the Rev-N-Nator with the recommended Accel distributor and works well.
I did have to change the starting position of the firing order on the Accel cap as the tenon into the distributor gear it didnt match the points distributor being replaced. Different relationship of the tenon to the relutor angle.

I also have the MSD full kit to put in one day, just thought the Rev-N-Nator would be easier to do first.

Found this forum when looking for information. They claim a 10 too 40 hp gain with the rev n nator over a stock set up . See what you think .

:iagree: Multi spark only goes up to 3000 rpm & then goes back to single spark output , if you do a full tune up Before switching to MSD it might start easier but you will gain zero HP , the gain is made in the ECU switching speed so a Revnator is a good upgrade , if you really want to up grade go to a crank trigger & 4 coil packs
