Small Block Motor Mounts and Bolts With Pics

Guys,

As you know I've been a Chevy guy most of my life and my Challenger is my first Mopar.  I installed the motor mounts on the 340 last night and I'm curious as to why the hole on the one side is bigger before it gets threaded in to the other side?  All that was in the mounts when I took it apart was the bolts and no washers or anything.

It that hole there to allow the motor to move around?  Am I missing washers or something beside the bolts?  Do you guys have any pics of what they should look like installed?  As always anything you can help me with is appreciated.  Thanks

only washers used were on the bolts them selves.
 the mounts are correct and once those are tightened down the engine should not move around.

That hole is large because of production tolerances.  The K-members were pretty sloppily put together.  A large hole ensured that the bolts could be installed quickly instead of having to fight two holes that didn't line up perfectly.

One more questions.  Do I have to use actual motor mount bolts or can I get grade 8 bolts?  Thanks

I'd have to look at my fastener guide to be sure but I think the stock bolts were just grade 5.

the mount will fail before the bolt will 
 use or make a torque strap

This is a street driven car.  I'm never going to be banging gears like in my youth.  Is a Torque Strap really that necessary?  I didn't use them when I was a kid and had no issues.  Just wondering.

The rubber that the new mounts are made out of seems to be pretty poorly made.  There have been a lot of mount failures.  I'd use a strap(or locking mount) on anything other than a stock 318.
