What is this notch?
« on: September 03, 2016 - 02:47:10 PM »
I've been measuring my Challenger wheel so that I can make an adapter from a Grant wheel to the stock crush can.

Been wondering why the factory wheel bolt pattern is offset, and noticed this on the crush can.

What is this notch in the crush can.  This notch is at the bottom center of the crush can.

Needed for assembly?
Line up feature?

The reason for the notch and bolt pattern is so that the steering wheel goes on in the correct position. Basically when the tie rods are adjusted correctly, everything lines up and when the wheels are pointed straight ahead the steering box is positioned midway  and the steering wheel will be perfectly centered as well, not off to one side.
