Any vintage tire gurus out there?
« on: September 15, 2016 - 05:35:38 PM »
Does anyone know how I can tell if my tires are original or repros? Are they date coded? Is the picture I'm attaching show a date code?

Thanks guys
Tom

That would be awesome if they are from 2013. I really don't want to have to buy a new set of repro tires  :2thumbs:

I did a little research on the Internet and found that the date codes are located at the DOT stamp.

So I decided to look on the inside face of the tires and found the DOT code.

It turns out the tires are made in Argintina so they are old Reproductions and most likely from 1988.

I knew the date was in there somewhere I google it now remember it's the week and year indicated.  tire rack has it explained in their site http://r.search.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0LEV2ofS9tXh2AANgM5ByI5;_ylu=X3oDMTByOHZyb21tBGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzcg--/RV=2/RE=1474018207/RO=10/RU=http%3a%2f%2fwww.tirerack.com%2ftires%2ftiretech%2ftechpage.jsp%3ftechid%3d11/RK=0/RS=zVY5X6a0aXeUytv.6rQgTnRBLLE-

The reproductions that were built in Argentina were the first of the reproduction Goodyears.  The plant was a Goodyear plant that was still building Bias Plys, so other than sending mold to the plant, there was no slow down to learn how to build the tires.

Currently, all of the Goodyear reproduction tires are made here in the United States.

For the DOT date code, it is the impressed number at the end of the DOT numbers.  I do have a listing for decoding the old tires that is before the DOT coding that the Tire Rack list shows.

If you are interested in pricing of new reproduction Goodyears, I am happy to help with that.  My cell is 816-654-3400.
