Gas Gauge Issue
« on: September 20, 2016 - 12:43:19 PM »
Soo - My sending unit is brand new - and the terminals that connect to the tank are clean and good looking.

BUT

When I go around corners and get the tank sloshing, I get the gauge to register moementarily and then it slowly drops back to 0.   What the heck!?!   To me that says that the sending unit is bad and I just replaced it.

A LITTLE HELP PLEASE!   :feedback:

Do you have the ground strap in place?

They are known for being totally inaccurate. Try filling the gas tank up and see what it reads...most likely around 1/2....

Maybe the float has a pinhole in it and it's got gas in it causing it to stay at the bottom. I had a float once with an unnoticeable hole in it.

I do have a ground strap but wouldn't know if it is installed correctly.
I have a brand new sending unit in the tank now and it STILL registers empty (like the last one did) whether it is or not.

The ground strap just bridges the small piece of fuel hose between the main fuel line and the sending unit.  One end pushes onto the main fuel line...the other end just pushes onto the sending unit nipple.

To see if your gauge is faulty, you can ground the wire that plugs into the sending unit.  If the gauge needle swings to the full mark, the gauge is working.
