To Much Rust
« on: August 22, 2016 - 02:09:46 PM »
I have removed the rear seat pan to replace it. I have now found rust all around the passenger spring mount where it is welded to the rocker panel. The rocker panel is shot In my opinion. I will not be happy unless I remove as much rust as possible. Any ideas on what to do? What to replace it with or is there any upgrade trick I can do? I have the ability and the tools to do pretty much anything metal work wise. And it doesn't have to be stock. Just strong and rust free. First pic is the inside of the rocker. Second pic is the bottom looking up.

What version of Windows are you using? In Windows 10 you can use the Windows Live Photo Gallery to reduce the size of pictures. Just upload a picture into the program and go to edit, then properties. It will let you adjust the size of the picture. Other versions of Windows have the same ability although the programs may have different names.

I have used a free program called Irfanview for about 15 years now, even used it at work for operator manuals and parts books... It will do everything you want and then some! It will even do batch resizing, color enhancements, and a lot more... can download easily off the web... just search 'irfanview'...

I've been using Picasa (freeware) to manage, export, and resize my photos.  I think there's an online version, but mine is resident on my computer.

"Paint" is another program and several computers have that installed as well. It take a little figuring on how to resize and save, and it works.

Pic 1- Rust located on inner rocker panel just behind the leaf spring mount on passenger side.

Pic 2- Rust on the bottom side of rocker just in front of passenger rear wheel.

Pic 3- Is the rear seat pan removed for replacement.

Pic 4- Over all condition of the car. The front fender is set up there to remind me what it looks like.

Sorry for the delay on the pics. I am computer incompetent, which is kinda odd for my generation. Thank you AARTA340.
My question is what are some ideas on how to fix it. Im pretty competent on my skills but I am scared to go into the rocker panel since its a unibody car. I dont want to mess up the car. Whats some tips or tricks to fix this area. OR should I try to pay someone to do it.
