Turbo Actin 10" Tight Converter
« on: September 25, 2016 - 10:42:47 AM »
Hi, I am Martin from Switzerland.
I put a new torque converter in my almost stock 1970 Challenger R/T 383 with 3.55 Gears, Lunati cam 60302.
It is a Turbo Action 10" tight converter. The engine needs about 1500rpm that the car moves on a flat street. And if I shift from P to D the idle does not decrease. is that normal? I thought the tight version couple earlier.

Has someone experience with this converter?

Something is wrong.... I'm sure you've double checked the fluid? Was the trans gone through also or just a convertor swap? Sounds like you got the wrong convertor & I'm sure getting it shipped wasn't cheap.....

sure, I have double checked the fluid. I bought the with a broken engine, so I had not the chance to drive it before. The previous owner told me that the trans was recently rebuilt and drives perfect.  while driving the trans feels good, the shifts are very smooth. do you think I have a trans problem?

What does "tight" convertor mean? Convertors act differently behind different motors. What does it flash to when you stall it? Put it in gear, lock the brakes and mash the gas. What rpm does it "flash" to? That is the stall speed. Probably nothing wrong with it. Just too loose for your engine combination. Use a good cooler. It will create a lot of heat.

According to Turbo Action the 17805-ST is convertor that drives like a normal 12" convertor but flashes 3800 RPM... Similar to a Dynamic 9.5.....  It should not act like a loose race convertor.....

Yes I have heard that my 17805-ST converter should act like a stock converter with little gas or at part throttle. Knows someone this converter? I don't need the footbrake till 1300rpm in D or R, that is strange.  I will check the stall speed.

ok, now everything is fine  it was an incorrect adjustmentt of the kick down linkage. the pressure in the tranny was too low, I had slipping clutches till 1300rpm!!  :(  But now it is perfect, the car moves in idle and pulls like a stock car  :cooldancing:
