Rear shock plates have different threads?
« on: September 28, 2016 - 04:51:11 PM »
I pulled the rear end and suspension from under the wife's Challenger.
I didn't pay much attention to the parts as I was planning to sandblast them and replace all the hardware.

I blasted the shock plates today and after looking closely at them I noticed the threaded studs the shock bolts attach to are different sizes. :clueless:

I don't imagine this is correct?
Any issues with just sourcing the correct nuts for each stud and use everything?

the one on the left has had a repair and a bolt welded to it. the one on the right is correct.

Parts stores sell a repair stud for those.  You have to torch off the original.  The new one bolts on.  I thought I saw that someone was making the original style again though.  You'd still have to torch the old one off and weld the replacement back on.

Thanks for the info guys, the previously repaired stud makes sense.

I took the shock plates to my local industrial fastener supply place and picked up 2 correct fitting grade 8 nuts for the shock plate studs and 2 new grade 8 bolts and nuts for mounting the top of the new shocks all for under $2.  :2thumbs:
